A Way Through the Woods

I have always loved fairy tales. I've dreamed of finding my prince and living happily ever after after watching every single Disney movie. Not all fairy tales end on a happy Disney note though. Grimm's fairy tales are also just as wonderful to read, filled with adventures and creatures. I'm always looking for new tales to read and get absorbed into.

I recently read A Way Through the Woods: Four Fairy Tales by Jocelyn Koehler. As I was reading these four stories I was immediately drawn to the characters and the magic within the worlds where they lived. Each story pulls from other fairy tale inspirations but Jocelyn has made each story her own. The four tales include Ashes, Ashes, Nettles, In Silence and Shadow, and The Green Frog. In each tale the characters have to figure out what they truely desire before they can overcome the situation they are in. From Cindrelle in Ashes, Ashes to Una in The Green Frog, these characters are truely magical and intriguing.

I don't want to spoil the endings to these tales but I will say you will throughly enjoy them. I wish each of these stories were longer so I could spend more time reading about the characters and the choices they have to make.

Supporting Independent Publishers

Soon I will put my name on the list of independent publishers. One of the many joys I get is when I can help out someone accomplishing their dream. I love seeing a link on twitter to a new product or game and jumping on kickstarter to help someone out. Every little bit counts! Jocelyn Koehler has created an independent publishing company focused on creating awesome ebooks called Hammer and Birch. I can't say enough on taking the time to support your friends, gamers, writers and artists in their projects. Small independent publishers need our support! They are creating some amazing stuff so take a couple minutes to find a new project or check out these fairy tales at Hammer and Birch. I can't wait to see what Jocelyn comes up with next!
