GenCon Part 2
GenCon Part 2
I'm still riding the wave of GenCon this week (especially since I can't go to DragonCon or Pax or WorldCon) and thinkign about all the fun times I had and all the people I got to meet.
GenCon Social
This year I hosted the GenCon Social with Adam Pinilla from the Podgecast. We decide to host a dinner and party to get a big group of friends together to hangout with everyone at once. It was a great idea because I was able to see a ton of friends I might not have gotten to see during the rest of the convention. We had the social at Rock Bottom Brewery and had awesome food and delicious brews. I think everyone had a ton of fun and I hope to do it again next year.
At the Social Adam announced the RPG Podcast awards. The awards were created to recognize artistic achievement, technical proficiency, and overall excellence in both gaming podcasts and the games that inspire such podcasts. The winners are:
- Risk Legacy
- Dungeon World
- Monsterhearts
- Lady Blackbird
- Marvel Heroic Roleplaying
- Burning Wheel Gold
- The Walking Eye Podcast
- The JankCast!
Diana Jones Awards
Diana Jones Awards was on Wednesday where I got to meet up with a ton of people. I got to chat with many of the guests I've had on the show and meet some new ones (who will totally be on the Jennisodes soon!). After we all listened to the award being announce to the winner - Nordic Larps we were ready to have some fun! In the middle of the bar was a huge bull. It didn't take long for someone to get up the liquid courage to ride it. Lenny Balersa did his best to stay on but alas he is not a bull rider. Matt Forbeck took the prize for the best bull rider and you may be able to find a video somewhere online.
Ennies
Once again I met so many amazing gamers, game designers and fans at the Ennies. After a couple beverages and multiple handshakes we all sat down to find out the winners! Jennisodes was nominated for the best podcast but silver went to Haste and the gold went to the Role Playing Public Radio. Law of the Geek and the Iron GM podcast rounded out the field. Each of these podcasts should be on your radar.
It was great watching to many friends win awards for all the hard work they have done this past year on their games and websites. I say friends because I've been so lucky to get to know a lot of people in the industry over the years through the podcast. GenCon was such an awesome time and I can't wait to go back next year!
